The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, better known as Barcelona Cathedral, is a perfect example of Gothic architecture. Its construction began in 1298, following the consecration of a Romanesque church in the 11th century. Work continued for over 150 years and was completed in the 19th century, thanks to contributions from the bourgeoisie and the faithful.
This majestic temple has profound historical and religious significance, paying homage to Saint Eulalia, who was martyred in 303 AD at the age of 13 for refusing to renounce her Christian faith. Her remains rest in the crypt of the Cathedral.
Throughout your tour, you can admire several gems of architecture and religious art: the impressive choir, the peaceful terraces, the beautiful cloister and the chapter house, where the famous Desplà Pietà is kept. You can also explore the chapels of Saint Mark and Mare de Déu de la Mercè.
And to top it all off, don't miss the spectacular panoramic views of Barcelona from the roof of the Cathedral, the perfect place to take a photo you'll never forget.
