Barcelona History Museum

The Museu d'Història de Barcelona is one of the city's most fascinating museums, offering an in-depth look at its rich history. From Roman Barcino to modern-day Barcelona, the MUHBA has several historical sites throughout the city, allowing you to immerse yourself in different periods of its evolution.

The Barcelona History Museum has several sites scattered throughout the city, each with a unique approach to exploring its history and culture:

  1. Plaza del Rey Monumental Complex: A spectacular tour of the archaeological underground that preserves 4,000 m² of remains from the Roman colony of Barcino and its episcopal complex.
  2. Espai Santa Caterina: Located beneath the Santa Caterina Market, this space reveals how the city has evolved from prehistory to present-day Barcelona.
  3. Call Interpretation Centre: Discover the life of the Jewish community in Barcelona's old Jewish quarter. You can see objects recovered from excavations, such as ritual lamps and tombstones.
  4. Refugio 307: Visit one of the most important air-raid shelters from the Spanish Civil War. A historical testimony that shows how the people of Barcelona protected themselves during the bombings.
  5. Other historical sites:
    • Domus de Sant Honorat: Restored Roman house.
    • Temple of Augustus: Remains of the Roman temple from the 1st century BC.

  • Vil·la Joana (Verdaguer House Museum), Carretera de l'Esglèsia, 104: Thursday, from 10 am to 2 pm. Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, from 10 am to 5 pm.
  • Roman Sepulchral Way, Plaza Vila de Madrid: Tuesday to Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Closed on Mondays.
  • Domus de Sant Honorato, Calle de la Fruita, 2: Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • Temple of Augustus, Carrer del Paradís, 10: Monday, from 10 am to 2 pm. Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 am to 7 pm. Sunday, from 10 am to 8 pm.
  • Turó de la Rovira, Calle Marià Labèrnia, s/n: Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Sunday, from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm and from 4.30 pm to 8.30 pm. From 1 October: Wednesday and Friday, from 10:00 to 15:00. Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 to 15:00.
  • Puerta de Mar and Portuarias Thermal Baths, Pati Llimona Civic Centre, Calle Regomir, 7-9: Tuesday and Thursday, from 10:00 to 13:00. Wednesday, from 17:00 to 20:00. Saturday, from 10:30 to 13:30. Closed on Monday and Sunday.

Admission to the Barcelona History Museum is free on Sundays from 3 p.m. onwards. In addition, on the first Sunday of each month, admission is free all day, except for Refuge 307.

The length of your visit will depend on your interests and how thoroughly you want to explore the different areas of the museum. In general, you can expect to spend between 1 and 2 hours if you visit only one or two of the areas, but if you decide to explore several of the MUHBA sites, such as the Plaza del Rey Monumental Complex and Refugio 307, you may need up to 3 or 4 hours.
