This is Barcelona is the global promotion platform for the city that was created with the aim of redefining the way Barcelona is understood and projected as a destination. It is an initiative promoted by the Barcelona Tourism Consortium that responds to a new strategic approach: to show the authentic, unique and contemporary Barcelona, ​​far from the postcard image and simplified stories.

The platform focuses on a tourist offer based on culture, architecture, gastronomy, art and local lifestyle, with the aim of attracting a culturally active, curious and respectful visitor, interested in knowing and experiencing the city's tangible and intangible heritage. This is Barcelona not only explains what to do in Barcelona, ​​but also why the city is the way it is, and what makes it unique today.

Through the creation and dissemination of highly curated content, This is Barcelona projects the image of the city that we are and the city for which we want to be known and recognized internationally. It is a platform for prescription, inspiration and accompaniment that builds a story, provides context and connects the visitor with a real, diverse and culturally profound Barcelona.

The Marketing Platform (DXP – e-Commerce)

Within this digital ecosystem, This is Barcelona, ​​the DXP (Digital Experience Platform), based on Adobe Commerce Cloud, is functionally and technologically integrated. This platform is designed for marketing the city's tourism services and products, transforming the inspiration generated by content into concrete experiences through the purchase of tourism products. This integration enables a seamless and unified user experience, where navigation, content recommendations, and the purchasing process are all part of the same digital journey.

Funding. Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan

The development of This is Barcelona and its associated digital ecosystem is part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and has been possible thanks to the opportunity provided by the NextGenerationEU Funds, which lay the foundations for a new stage and a new cycle in the way Barcelona is promoted to the world.

The project is part of the Digitalisation of the promotion and tourism management of the destination action, linked to axis 3 of the Barcelona City Council's Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD) (C14.I01.P06.S02.S03).

Financing with NextGenerationEU Funds has allowed different parts of the key areas of the project to be carried out, such as:

  • Design and conceptualisation of the platform.
  • Technological development of the portal and the DXP (e-commerce) platform.
  • Part of the content production.
  • SEO positioning actions.
  • Incorporation of accessibility criteria and improvements.

This support has been decisive in consolidating an innovative, sustainable, inclusive digital platform oriented towards a more responsible tourism promotion model aligned with future challenges.
