The Copa Nadal is a long-standing tradition that takes to the chilly waters of Port Vell every 25 December. Organised by Club Natació Barcelona since 1907, it’s Spain’s oldest open-water swim. Two hundred metres of cold, nerve and good humour. Hundreds of swimmers of all ages and abilities take part, some in fancy dress. For a short time, the harbour becomes the setting for a different side of Barcelona: sporting, festive and full of energy.

This is good to know

At the end of the swim, participants and spectators traditionally share a hot broth, a small ritual that warms you up as much as the water chills you.
