Barcelona is a city that lends itself to walking. It is compact, varied and full of life, which makes it easy to explore at your own pace, neighbourhood by neighbourhood, square by square, and to notice places that might otherwise pass you by.

Getting around on foot helps you connect more closely with the city’s rhythm, and allows you to take in its architecture, public spaces and daily life more fully. Many of the main areas are within easy reach of each other, and the pedestrian layout makes it straightforward and comfortable to move around.

Walking is also a quieter and more sustainable way to experience Barcelona and a good way to see the city as it is lived from day to day.

For specific needs such as language options or seven-seater vehicles, it is recommended to book in advance by phone. Barcelona is a compact city, easy to get around on foot or by public transport. If you are driving, it is worth bearing in mind that traffic is regulated, with pedestrian priority zones and streets with restricted access.

On-street parking is limited and regulated through green and blue zones. There is also an extensive network of underground car parks, both public and private, especially in the city centre.

The city operates a Low Emission Zone (ZBE), which restricts access for vehicles based on their emissions, particularly on weekdays. It is recommended to check in advance whether a vehicle is allowed to circulate and to register it if necessary: zberegistre.ambmobilitat.cat

In general, private cars are only useful in specific situations; for travel within the city centre and for everyday journeys, public transport, cycling and walking are more practical, agile and sustainable options.

Cycling is well established in Barcelona, with more than 240 km of cycle lanes across the city, along with signage, traffic lights and a wide range of bicycle parking facilities. It is also allowed on 30 km/h streets, shared-space streets, streets without kerbs, pedestrian areas, roadways and in public parks, always following the rules to ensure safety and harmonious sharing of public space.

Cycling can be combined with public transport, and bicycles must be parked at designated locking points or in underground parking facilities. You can also rent a bike or join guided routes with specialist companies for an active and eco-friendly way of getting around the city.
