“Dana Lixenberg. American Images, 1993-2025” is a retrospective at KBr Fundació MAPFRE dedicated to the Dutch documentary photographer. The exhibition focuses on more than three decades of work in the United States, with portraits of cultural icons, marginalized communities, and social landscapes laden with memory. With her large-format camera, Lixenberg constructs a measured and direct gaze, far removed from media spectacle and the clichés of the American dream.

This is... good to know

The photographer doesn't seek out candid shots. Her portraits usually begin with a direct, restrained gaze.
