Verdi's Requiem, also known as the "Messa di Requiem", is one of history's most magnificent symphonic-choral works. Composed in 1874 by Giuseppe Verdi in honour of the writer Alessandro Manzoni, the concert will be performed at the Gran Teatre del Liceu on 3 and 4 November 2026. The work is renowned for its powerful operatic drama, capable of combining intense passages, such as the Dies Irae, with moments of profound vocal and choral intimacy.
The Dies Irae is the most famous fragment. Its bass drum beats evoke the end of the world and demand pinpoint accuracy from the conductor.
The solo quartet scheduled for Barcelona (Davidsen, Akhmetshina, De Tommaso, Van Horn) brings together four of the most sought-after voices in today's music scene.
