The Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor de Jesús is a monumental church perched on Tibidabo in the Collserola mountain range. Visible from nearly every corner of the city, it combines Neo-Gothic and Neo-Byzantine styles, topped by a bronze statue of the Sacred Heart. As you draw near, a hushed stillness settles over the air and the eye is drawn to the sculptures that adorn both the façade and interior. The church stands on the site of a former Salesian hermitage, inaugurated in 1886 during Saint John Bosco’s visit to Barcelona.
