L’Estel ferit (The Wounded Star) is a sculpture by Rebecca Horn made up of four irregularly stacked blocks of steel and glass. Unveiled in 1992 on Barceloneta beach, it rises 10 metres like a broken star facing the Mediterranean. Its silhouette recalls the former beach bars and the quarts de casa (small, subdivided working-class homes), modest seaside dwellings that predated the Olympic transformation of the coastline. Between memory and modernity, the work turns fragility into an urban symbol.

This is good to know

Although its official name is L’Estel ferit, many Barcelonians call it “Los Cubos” (The Cubes).
