Onades, by Andreu Alfaro, rises in the middle of Plaça del Carbó as a series of metallic curves evoking the waves of the sea. Welcoming those arriving in Barcelona via the port area, this interplay of steel tubes stretches along the city’s shoreline as if the Mediterranean itself had decided to spill onto the promenade in the form of metal waves. The work impresses with both its scale and the visual dynamism of its forms, which seem to move like the sea. Yet despite its size, it never feels imposing; instead, it invites you to walk beneath its arches.
