The Fundació Joan Miró is a contemporary art museum established by the artist himself and home to the largest public collection of his work. Founded in 1975 and set in Josep Lluís Sert’s light-filled building on Montjuïc, it brings together paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints from across Miró’s career. The white architecture, open to the sky, sets off the bold colours of the works inside. Alongside the permanent collection, it hosts temporary exhibitions and programmes that keep his work connected to the present.

This is good to know

The terraces are open to visitors and offer some of the best views over Barcelona and Montjuïc, framed by Miró’s own sculptures.
The Fundació’s tapestry was designed specifically for this space and is so large it had to be woven in a specialist workshop outside the museum.
The inner courtyards are not simply decorative; they are designed to to give the eye a brief pause between rooms, before you move on to another burst of colour.
