The Museu Tàpies is dedicated to modern and contemporary art. It was founded by Antoni Tàpies himself to encourage critical thinking through artistic practice. Set in a proto-Modernist building in the heart of the Eixample, it holds one of the most complete collections of his work and offers a varied programme of exhibitions, events and publications. A calm, reflective museum where art invites you to look at the world from another angle.

This is good to know

Designed by the modernista architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the building once housed the Montaner i Simón publishing house, an important part of Barcelona’s printing history.
Tàpies worked with marble dust, earth and everyday materials, creating works that question, surprise and unsettle.
Start your visit on the rooftop, where the sculpture Núvol i cadira (Cloud and Chair) floats like an enigma. The bookshop offers a grounding contrast, with a carefully curated selection of books on the artist, non-Western art, and other disciplines such as cinema and architecture.
