Museu Tàpies

Educational activities are organized for school and family audiences, with support materials that show the textures and materials used by Antoni Tàpies in his works. With prior request, it is also possible to take a guided tour for people with visual impairments, with the support of this tactile material. Guide dogs are allowed throughout the premises.

The Tàpies Museum has practically no architectural barriers. The old building is well adapted to accommodate visitors in wheelchairs. At the back of this old building, an extension annex was recently built that is fully accessible. Wheelchair loan service. Ask at reception. Entrance: The main entrance has a 12 cm high step. The alternative access for wheelchair users is at the left side door, where there is a sign with the corresponding pictogram and a warning bell. The staff comes out to open this door and facilitates access, either via the ramp (which is short but has a steep slope) or by installing a mobile ramp that softens the inclination of the fixed ramp. Right in front of this entrance, there is a very large elevator that connects with the Reception area and the exhibition rooms. Reception: The reception is half a floor below street level. This area also houses the bookstore-shop and the luggage lockers. The customer service counter has two heights, one 122 cm and the other 76 cm. The lower part only allows lateral access with a wheelchair. The luggage lockers have a maximum height of 103 cm. Mobility inside: The interior itinerary does not present any difficulties in circulation. The rooms are spacious and, between the exhibition elements, there is enough space to circulate with a wheelchair. The flooring is non-slip. On floor -1 is the main exhibition hall, the auditorium and the toilets. On floor -2 is the temporary exhibition hall. There are two levels here, separated by a staircase of 3 steps. To overcome this difference in height, there is a lifting platform for wheelchairs. On the 1st floor there is an exhibition space and the Foundation's library. The access door to the library has a small protrusion of 4 cm. Elevators: There are two elevators, which can be used freely and connect all floors. The one in the old building (door width, 125 cm) does not reach the roof. The elevator in the modern part of the building (door width, 80 cm) is the one that gives access to the roof, where the large sculpture "Mitjó" is located. Toilets: There is an adapted toilet on the -1st floor. The door to the cabin is sliding and is 81 cm wide. There is a fixed support bar to the left of the toilet, and a folding bar to the right. Under the sink there is a free space with a height of 71 cm and a depth of 46 cm. Bookstore-shop: It is on the lower mezzanine, where the reception and the customer service area are located. The shop counter has two heights: 122 and 76 cm. The space is suitable for people in wheelchairs.

The Tàpies Museum collaborates in social inclusion projects and provides prior advice for free visits. With prior request, it also offers guided activities adapted for people with understanding and learning needs.
