The Casa Bloc complex is an icon of social Rationalism in Barcelona. Designed in the 1930s by Sert, Torres Clavé and Subirana, it proposes a new way of living that is functional, dignified and rooted in collective life. Its open, light-filled duplex homes helped move beyond the outdated and unhealthy housing models of the time. The building still evokes the lives once lived in these homes and helps show how certain ideas were put into practice.

This is good to know

During the Franco period, an additional block was added, known as the “ghost block”, which disrupted the original spatial logic of the complex.
