The Castell de Montjuïc is a 17th-century military fortress that sits above Barcelona like a stone sentinel. Its geometric outline is more restrained than decorative, opening onto wide views of the port, the sea and the city below. Over time, it has moved beyond its military role to become a cultural site. Within the grounds, the Montjuïc Castle Interpretation Centre offers a permanent exhibition that explores the history of the monument in detail.

This is good to know

One way to reach it is by taking the Montjuïc cable car, which climbs the hill and brings you close to the entrance.
Built from 1640 onwards, it later served as a military prison and, in the 19th century and the Spanish Civil War, as a site of executions.
The interpretation centre presents the history of the castle across several rooms, using audiovisual material and historical objects to explain its evolution and its link with Montjuïc.
