The Urquinaona skyscraper is a mixed-use building of residences and offices that challenged the horizontality of the Eixample with a functionalist aesthetic. Constructed between 1936 and 1944, its triangular form adapts to the chamfer with a curved façade that outlines a clean, unadorned prow, accompanied by smooth surfaces and aligned windows. Standing 67 metres tall, it was less a monument than a statement of modernity integrated into the city’s grid layout.
