Nau Gaudí is a former modernista factory in Mataró and is regarded as Antoni Gaudí’s first work. Originally built as a cotton bleaching facility, it now houses the Col·lecció Bassat, with over 2,000 key works of contemporary Catalan art. In this pioneering piece of architecture, Gaudí first experimented with parabolic arches and ceramic cladding, features that would come to define his style. The space has become a vibrant cultural centre, offering exhibitions, guided tours and activities for families and schools. These experiences highlight the collection’s artistic value and trace the history of Catalan art from the post-war period to the present day.

This is good to know

It is a lively cultural venue today, where exhibitions of drawing, painting, sculpture and photography interact beneath Gaudí’s arches.
Nau Gaudí was not only his first building but also the only one he dedicated to the textile industry, where his fascination with geometry and natural light first took root.
