The Palau Baró de Quadras is a modernista mansion designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch in the late 19th century. On Avinguda Diagonal, it features an exuberant neo-Plateresque façade by Eusebi Arnau, full of intricate, eye-catching detail. On Carrer Rosselló, by contrast, the style becomes more restrained and abstract. Inside, the grand staircase, mosaics, sgraffito and wrought iron create a sequence of carefully composed spaces. Two façades, two styles and a shared ambition: to show just how far Barcelona’s Modernisme could go.

This is good to know

The building was commissioned by Baron Manuel de Quadras to convert an existing residential block.
On the Avinguda Diagonal façade, one of the most striking features is Sant Jordi Slaying the Dragon by the sculptor Eusebi Arnau.
