The Palau Montaner is a modernista building from the late 19th century, originally built as a private residence in the Eixample. Designed by Josep Domènech i Estapà and completed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, it brings together symbolism, finely crafted detail and a strong sense of cultural ambition. The façade reflects the literary world of the Montaner family, linked to the publishing house Montaner i Simón, through reliefs and glazed ceramics inspired by books and publishing. Inside, light reveals the mosaics, stained glass and a staircase that stands out without excess. Behind its more subdued exterior lies the artistic ambition of Barcelona at the turn of the century.

This is good to know

Palau Montaner incorporates an internal iron structure, an early sign of the construction methods that would define the new century.
The main staircase, lit by a glass skylight, turns the entrance hall into a space where light plays a central role.
