The Parlament de Catalunya is an imposing 18th-century building in the Parc de la Ciutadella. Originally built as a military arsenal, it still preserves its original layout: the Palau del Governador (Governor’s Palace, now an educational centre), the chapel (now a military parish) and the arsenal itself, which houses the parliamentary chamber. Its stone and red-tiled façade leads into a calm interior of four courtyards, with busts of notable figures and corners shaped by centuries of use. More than a political building, it carries a strong sense of memory and culture, offering a quiet space where it is easy to linger for a while.

This is good to know

Designed between 1716 and 1748 by Próspero de Verboom, the building retains the sober feel of its military origins.
It was only after the return of democracy that the arsenal became the seat of the Parliament.
Laid out in a cross shape with two floors, attics and a central dome, its imposing exterior gives way to a surprisingly calm interior.
