The Reial Acadèmia de Medicina de Catalunya occupies the former Col·legi de Cirurgia, a key example of Barcelona’s neoclassical architecture. Founded to train military surgeons, it is today a living institution, still closely linked to medicine and thought. Its highlight – the 18th-century anatomical amphitheatre – remains perfectly preserved: baroque details, stone tiers, a marble dissection table, rococo chairs… A time capsule that fascinates visitors, whatever their level of expertise, preserving centuries of scientific discovery and debate.

This is good to know

For over five hundred years, this complex was at the heart of Barcelona’s medical history. Today, the academy remains very much alive, hosting debates and conferences – a quiet corner where you can discover stories beyond Modernisme.
