The Jardí Botànic de Barcelona is dedicated to the study and conservation of Mediterranean biodiversity from around the world. Opened in 1999 on the slopes of Montjuïc, it is laid out as a living museum, with more than 1,300 species grouped by geographical origin. Its paths lead through Mediterranean-climate landscapes from different continents, where native and introduced species grow side by side. From certain points, the planting opens out towards the city and the sea, offering a calm and revealing way to explore Barcelona’s plant life.

This is good to know

The visit is divided into eight areas, each representing landscapes from Australia, South Africa, Chile, California, the eastern and western Mediterranean, North Africa and the Canary Islands.
It also features a notable collection of Mediterranean bonsai, one of the most distinctive of its kind in Europe.
