The Porxos d’en Xifré is an elegant neoclassical arcade beside Port Vell. Beneath its stone arches, urban life mingles with the scent of the sea and fine cuisine: it was here that the legendary grilled prawn was first served, and dishes from the finest Catalan tradition continue to be offered. The understated architecture, also built with marble, contrasts with the lively atmosphere: terraces filled with people eager to savour the area. Today, the Porxos retains that sense of standing at the boundary between the maritime and the urban.

This is good to know

At the Porxos d’en Xifré, the shade has always held a special charm: it was here, back in the 1940s, that the famous “Barceloneta prawn” was first served, when the clientele mixed dockworkers with a curious bourgeoisie eager for new experiences.
