Gambrinus is a 10-metre pop sculpture created by Javier Mariscal in 1989 for the namesake restaurant on Moll de la Fusta. Shaped like a giant red crustacean, the piece quickly became one of the port’s most photographed icons. After the restaurant closed, the piece was preserved and reinstalled on the waterfront, where it now stands as a reminder of the transformation of Barcelona’s coastline in the years leading up to the Olympic Games.

This is good to know

Although everyone calls it "La Gamba" (the Prawn), Javier Mariscal always reminds us that it is actually a Norway lobster. This widespread confusion has become part of the sculpture’s history.
