The Zona de Banys del Fòrum is an unconventional public bathing area by the sea. There is no sand here, but concrete platforms and ladders leading directly into the salt water. The atmosphere is relaxed and, although there are usually people around, it rarely feels crowded. Stretching for more than 300 metres, there is plenty of space to swim, sunbathe or read without the classic ritual of laying a towel on the sand. It may not be the typical postcard image, but it is a great way to switch off without leaving the city.
