It was designed by Arata Isozaki, the Japanese architect who combined functionality and aesthetics in an adaptable structure. The roof-supporting structure was assembled on the ground and then lifted into place, a defining moment in its construction.
If you are attending a concert or match, it is worth arriving early: getting in can take time and exploring Montjuïc is part of the visit.
